Portable medical records for your Scholastic Athlete?
As my son applies to Universities during next few weeks, I get that sense of combined euphoria and angst. Pride mixed with fear on many levels. Some factors we as parents can keep within boundaries.
Others elements of college years were set in motion from actions and decisions we took for our kids 15 years ago! Whether that be setting good examples, signing up for perfect daycare program or investing a chunk of $$ into 'safe' mutual fund trying to offset the astronomical cost of Engineering schools.
However, I am very comfortable on one aspect as my two elder children have transitioned to past this milestone. A medical record, in electronic format has been created by us, the parents, that they as ADULTS will carry through out all phases of life.
All this being said, it does not alter any emotions as your son/daughter is on recieving end of intense tackle during the BIG game
Enjoy all your fall sports and the memories of family time... peace of mind with PHR.. the WorldMedCard way

Medicine 2.0 Blog Carnival
Excellent threads by...
Dr Aniruddha Malpani, MD
Bombay, Maharashtra, India
To summarise, I feel there are 4 major influences which will help patients to regain control over their healthcare.
1. Patients will keep their own medical records using a PHR ( Personal Health Record)
2. Information Therapy can be prescribed to them, tailored to their needs, based on their medical problems captured in the PHR
3. Web 2.0 technologies will allow them to form social communities to help and support each other
4. We can deliver this information to them 24/7 through their mobile, wherever they maybe, whenever they need it !

check it out ... Personal Control of Health Data and Patient-Provider Communications?
Personal Health Records: Personal Control of Health Data and Patient-Provider Communications, 2nd in a 3-part Series
Apr 03, 2008, 12:30 PM-02:00 PM
Web Teleconference
Overview
This teleconference, sponsored by the AHRQ National Resource Center for Health IT and moderated by Teresa Zayas-Caban of AHRQ, is the second in a three-part series on Personal Health Records (PHRs). The presenters, Kenneth Mandl of Children's Hospital in Boston and Jonathan Wald of Partners HealthCare, will talk about Children's Hospital Informatics Program's (CHIP) experience designing and implementing Indivo. Indivo is a personally controlled health record with the ability to integrate information from numerous and diverse healthcare databases. With an emphasis on strict patient control, it allows patients to maintain electronic copies of their records in a storage site of their choosing. CHIP is now collaborating with Dossia to adapt Indivo for its company employees and dependents. Also discussed will be Partners HealthCare's patient portal, Patient Gateway, and how it has fostered patient-provider communication and improved patient access to personalized information. Patient Gateway is linked to patients' electronic health record, giving providers and patients the opportunity to share and discuss a patient's health care needs and concerns. The presenters will describe the challenges they have encountered while implementing their PHRs, as well as the dialogue that has resulted between patients and healthcare providers.
These web conferences are free and open to the public, but space is extremely limited, so register today.

Presidents Day 2008... what was HealthCare 150 years ago?

If a reporter questioned US Presidential candidate about HealthCare in mid 1800's, what would be responses? I sense the concerns were even greater then.. just think, no anti-biotic, surgeons often were not formally educated, more over learned "in the trenches".
I suspect that Mr. Lincoln would have thought it was "Personal Responsibility" of each citizen to educate themselves on the organic medications, elixirs and other new age medicine. hospital centers were sprouting up in major cities and the skills of nursing, scientist were making rampant progress. Perhaps a similar state of change that is prevalent circa 2008?
Doubt that looking 150+ years to the future, anyone could predict that America finds itself in a cost burdened, non-standard, technically challenged Health System.
Take a quick peek @ these candidates thoughts.
Let me know your thoughts!
